Having been the local authority area of Scotland from 1973 to 1996, Grampian is divided to 3 main local authorities as Aberdeen shire, Aberdeen, and Moray. The name Grampian is has firstly applied to its mountain range in 1520 and according to Roman historians an adaption of the mane Mons Graupius has been made and in the Middle Ages the area was called the Mounths. The mountains of Grampian extend from southwest to northeast and Lochaber and Cairngorms hills, which lay on the Highland Boundary and Gleann Mr, are better known among mountaineering folks. And Ben Nevis of 1344meters, which happens to be the tallest peak of Brit islands also found in this mountain range. Almost all of the mountains in the area are composed with marble, granite and gneiss. Aden Country Park and museum in Aberdeen shire is well-liked for its yearly pipe band contest that the all pipe bands from every area of Scotland. The country mansion house that has been ruined in the Second World War can be seen there. Aden Park can be accessed each day thru the year and this attraction offers forest walks and mountaineering full of journeys. Balvenie castle in Glen Fiddich which was initially known as Mortlach is also a main holiday maker attraction and has been built in the 12th century. Now its ruins are defended by Consequential Scotland and the castle is open to public in the summertime season. |
